Central Coast based designer Joyce Polewczak began making jewelry in 1997. What started as hobby gradually transformed into a cottage industry. After teaching jewelry-making for five years, she eventually “found her muse” when a mentor gave her the nickname “Ree.” Thus, Ree Joyce Designs came to be.
Her designs are inspired by childhood memories of the contents of her mother’s jewelry box — a string of pearls, carved ivory beads, bezelled gemstone scarabs linked into a bracelet, an assortment of body adornments. Designs range from bohemian to elegant. Colors and textures of semi-precious gemstones, pearls and glass beads, incorporated with silver, gold or copper metals, comprise the signature style.
